Glacier Point Road Closure - Yosemite Re-Opened

Published 2018-08-23
As of 8/19/2018, the Ferguson Fire has been 100% contained.  Yosemite Valley re-opened last week, but Highway 41 and Glacier Pt Rd have remained closed.  Highway 41 is scheduled to re-open tomorrow, August 24th, at 8AM.  However, Glacier Point Road (used to access the Pohono Trail) will remain closed until further notice.  Efforts are under way to re-open the road before Labor Day weekend.  This is an unexpected turn in events and is forcing us to re-route another group of customers.
Customers between August 23rd and August 31st will need to follow one of the alternate plans detailed below.
 Option 1 - Intermediate/Expert
 Option 2 - Intermediate
 Option 3 -  Beginner
 Option 4 - Intermediate

Option 1) Hike the Pohono Trail in reverse direction
This option is a simple solution, but adds an additional 2,000 feet of elevation gain to the hike.  This requires an athletic level of physical fitness and should be only taken if everyone in the group is up for the challenge.

Option 2) Hike the Young Lakes trail in Tuolumne Meadows
This beautiful 10-mile hike is located within the high alpine zone of Yosemite, Tuolumne Meadows.  The trail will end at a remote alpine lake where you will sleep for the night.  This trail is the same physical difficulty as the original Pohono Trail itinerary.

Option 3) Re-Route to the Twenty Lakes Basin near Tuolumne Meadows
This secluded section of terrain lies just outside Yosemite’s Eastern entrance.  The hike is mostly flat with minimal elevation gain.  You can spend either one or two nights amongst the lakes.

Option 4) Re-Route to the Tamarack Flat to Yosemite Falls route
This trail begins at Tamarack Flat, wanders through meadows and summits El Capitan where you will sleep for the night. The next morning, you will summit Eagle Peak, continue over to Yosemite Falls, and finish at Camp 4.  It should be noted that Yosemite Falls is dry this time of year.

Please inform the CampCrate team as soon as possible which option you would like to pursue.  If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to click the chat button in the bottom right corner to talk to us.
